Development of test procedures for evaluation of binaural hearing aids. A final report.

چکیده
Research in the rehabilitative aspects of audiology has not been as extensive as audiological research focused on the development and use of various auditory tests for diagnostic purposes . The work described here, supported by the Veterans Administration, represents an effort to restore the balance by focusing on the communicative problems experienced by hearing-impaired veterans and others, and their rehabilitative needs. Specifically, the overall goals of these investigations have been the development of test procedures for assessing the efficiency of binaural hearing aids, and the development of methods for increasing the efficiency of hearing aid use . This report will consist of two parts : a summary of the work completed under earlier contracts, and of the projects supported by Veterans Administration Contract No . V101 (134) P-6. Greater emphasis will be placed on the reporting of the latter projects.

Multi-channel algorithms for wind noise reduction and signal compensation in binaural hearing aids
This paper contains a new approach for wind noise reduction in binaural hearing aids. This approach combines the ”single-channel low frequency reduction” algorithm [1] and the ”two-channel correlation detector” [2] with a multi-channel binaural hearing aid to compensate the desired signal. The algorithm benefits from the fact that if wind comes from one side, the wind noise mostly occurs in the...
متن کاملEvaluation method for hearing aid fitting under reverberation: comparison between monaural and binaural hearing aids.
Some hearing-impaired persons with hearing aids complain of listening difficulty under reverberation. No method, however, is currently available for hearing aid fitting that permits evaluation of hearing difficulty caused by reverberations. In this study, we produced speech materials with a reverberation time of 2.02 s that mimicked a reverberant environment (a classroom). Speech materials with...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Williams Syndrome with Severe Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Williams or Williams -Beuren Syndrome (WS) is a very rare syndrome associated with a microdeletion on chromosome 7q11.23. Williams syndrome is characterized by multiple congenital anomalies including distinctive facial features, cardiovascular anomalies, neurodevelopmental delay and mental retardation. Sensorineural hearing loss is not reported very often in WS patients. The purpose of the stud...
متن کاملبررسی تأثیر اوتیت میانی مزمن بر پردازش مرکزی شنوایی کودکان
Introduction & Objective: Conductive hearing loss following otitis media (OM) attenuates and delays sound passing through the middle ear. This may impair central auditory functions (such as binaural hearing) and lead to central impairments that persist after the peripheral loss has resolved. This study investigated the effects of chronic otitis media (COM) on central auditory function in chil...
متن کاملListeners who prefer monaural to binaural hearing aids.
Four patients who preferred monaural as compared with binaural amplification were evaluated. For these patients, audiometric data, recognition performance on a dichotic digit task, and monaural and binaural hearing aid performance using four amplification strategies (National Acoustic Laboratories-Revised, a speech in noise algorithm, multiple-microphone arrays, and frequency modulated [FM]) ar...
